Frequently Asked Questions

What is a complimentary consultation call?
The consultation call is for me to learn a little bit about your situation and for you to ask questions about how I work and how I might be able to help you. This can give you a sense of who I am and what it will be like talking with me. In our 15-minute phone consult, we should have a good idea of whether or not we are a good fit. In this process, we will be gathering information about each other to see how we can best meet your needs.
What can I expect/ What should I ask during my initial phone consultation?
Many times, clients have told me they are not sure what to ask during a consultation, especially if they are new to therapy. So, I’ve compiled a list of questions that you might consider asking a prospective therapist to see if they are a right fit for you.
*What is your area of expertise? *Do you have experience in working with …[your area of concern]? *What approaches to therapy do you use? *What will an average session look like? *How will I know therapy is working? *What is your availability for clients right now? *How often do you like to meet for sessions? *How do I schedule appointments? *Do you accept my insurance? *If you accept my insurance, do you file the claims or am I responsible for this? *If I am using out-of-network benefits, how do you handle those claims? *What is the cost per session if I am self-pay or choose not to use insurance? *Do you have a cancellation policy?
*You may also have other questions on your mind and that is ok. I encourage you to get your questions answered so that you feel comfortable scheduling your first appointment! Let's see if this is a great fit!

What is telehealth and how does it work?
Telehealth, often referred to as TeleMental health, or online therapy, is a means of providing counseling services remotely via technology that includes, but is not limited to, a telephone, video, internet, smartphone, tablet, PC desktop system, or other electronic means. I provide video telehealth through my HIPAA-secure client portal which allows you to click on a link that is sent to your email and join the video call. There is nothing to download and nothing is recorded.
How often should we meet?
I always recommend meeting weekly for at least the first four sessions so that you can create goals and be the most active participant in your treatment. After that, we can assess from there if weekly still feels right or if bi-weekly or even monthly feels like the best fit.
How are you as a therapist in sessions?
It is extremely important to me that I am a good role model for authenticity with my clients. In addition to maintaining a professionality, I also bring "me," my imperfect self, into the session. I incorporate humor and appropriate self-disclose about my own life experiences. Sometimes I'll curse or say "the wrong thing." So if any of those aspects of my therapist personality does not feel right for you, I understand. However, I hope you will feel safe and supported enough in the session to let me know. Each client is different, and what works from one to the other is also different. I whole-heartedly welcome your feedback so that you can have the experience you need and deserve.
